Narrative:

Takeoff roll, first officer flying. A loud report that shook the whole airplane was heard just after the V1 call. Although we were at 135 KTS, there was a very ample amt of runway remaining (12091 ft runway). I initiated an abort with maximum braking, spoilers and reverse thrust. We advised tower and coordination with the 'a' flight attendant. At this time we were told that smoke and sparks had come from the left engine. The instruments were normal, but we shut down the engine. An airport security car advised us that our gear, tires and engines appeared normal. However, when we attempted to taxi, the brakes were locked. We elected a tow rather trying to break loose with high power. I estimate that had full braking been applied to a stop, that there would have been more than 6000 ft of runway remaining. As it was, I aimed for a highspeed just west of taxiway 42, and came to an emergency stop. There was approximately 4500 ft remaining at that point. Later I was advised that feathers were found in the engine.

Narrative: TKOF ROLL, FO FLYING. A LOUD RPT THAT SHOOK THE WHOLE AIRPLANE WAS HEARD JUST AFTER THE V1 CALL. ALTHOUGH WE WERE AT 135 KTS, THERE WAS A VERY AMPLE AMT OF RWY REMAINING (12091 FT RWY). I INITIATED AN ABORT WITH MAX BRAKING, SPOILERS AND REVERSE THRUST. WE ADVISED TWR AND COORD WITH THE 'A' FLT ATTENDANT. AT THIS TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT SMOKE AND SPARKS HAD COME FROM THE L ENG. THE INSTRUMENTS WERE NORMAL, BUT WE SHUT DOWN THE ENG. AN ARPT SECURITY CAR ADVISED US THAT OUR GEAR, TIRES AND ENGS APPEARED NORMAL. HOWEVER, WHEN WE ATTEMPTED TO TAXI, THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED. WE ELECTED A TOW RATHER TRYING TO BREAK LOOSE WITH HIGH PWR. I ESTIMATE THAT HAD FULL BRAKING BEEN APPLIED TO A STOP, THAT THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE THAN 6000 FT OF RWY REMAINING. AS IT WAS, I AIMED FOR A HIGHSPEED JUST W OF TAXIWAY 42, AND CAME TO AN EMER STOP. THERE WAS APPROX 4500 FT REMAINING AT THAT POINT. LATER I WAS ADVISED THAT FEATHERS WERE FOUND IN THE ENG.
