Narrative:
Attached please find the airport diagram for wright patterson AFB with red dots indicating parking, taxi route and incursion on approach end of active runway. The problem arose on taxi for takeoff proceeding to the runup area. Unfamiliar with the airport and did not observe hold short lines. ATC ground controller advised of improper taxi area. Expeditiously departed area. Human performance considerations: unfamiliar with the airport. Conducting before takeoff checklist (challenge - reply from copilot). Did not see hold short lines. Review of ATC clearance as some questions existed concerning route of flight which resulted in distraction. Summary: a brief review of the events at the airport following the inadvertent incursion, heightened our awareness to: do one thing at a time, do it properly and move on to the next item. Be alert for the unusual at unfamiliar airports. Don't get distracted by other responsibilities when attention needs to be focused on what you are doing and when you are doing it. Debriefing of the flight to prevent such a stupid occurrence from repeating. Acceptance of the responsibility that it was I who should have prevented this system error. The realization that a catastrophic situation could have occurred is taken very seriously by us. We have discussed the situation in depth, and when faced with our next flight, we will be much more aware of potential taxi and flight hazards. I thank god for the opportunity to be here writing this report, my first since I started flying in 1967, and since being an air traffic controller in 1972 through 1985. Complacency did not play a part in this situation. Distraction, unfamiliarity and doing too many things at one time were all contributions to my error.

Title: GOV SMT UNAUTHORIZED RWY XING.
Narrative: ATTACHED PLEASE FIND THE ARPT DIAGRAM FOR WRIGHT PATTERSON AFB WITH RED DOTS INDICATING PARKING, TAXI RTE AND INCURSION ON APCH END OF ACTIVE RWY. THE PROBLEM AROSE ON TAXI FOR TKOF PROCEEDING TO THE RUNUP AREA. UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT AND DID NOT OBSERVE HOLD SHORT LINES. ATC GND CTLR ADVISED OF IMPROPER TAXI AREA. EXPEDITIOUSLY DEPARTED AREA. HUMAN PERFORMANCE CONSIDERATIONS: UNFAMILIAR WITH THE ARPT. CONDUCTING BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST (CHALLENGE - REPLY FROM COPLT). DID NOT SEE HOLD SHORT LINES. REVIEW OF ATC CLRNC AS SOME QUESTIONS EXISTED CONCERNING RTE OF FLT WHICH RESULTED IN DISTR. SUMMARY: A BRIEF REVIEW OF THE EVENTS AT THE ARPT FOLLOWING THE INADVERTENT INCURSION, HEIGHTENED OUR AWARENESS TO: DO ONE THING AT A TIME, DO IT PROPERLY AND MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ITEM. BE ALERT FOR THE UNUSUAL AT UNFAMILIAR ARPTS. DON'T GET DISTRACTED BY OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES WHEN ATTN NEEDS TO BE FOCUSED ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND WHEN YOU ARE DOING IT. DEBRIEFING OF THE FLT TO PREVENT SUCH A STUPID OCCURRENCE FROM REPEATING. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT IT WAS I WHO SHOULD HAVE PREVENTED THIS SYS ERROR. THE REALIZATION THAT A CATASTROPHIC SITUATION COULD HAVE OCCURRED IS TAKEN VERY SERIOUSLY BY US. WE HAVE DISCUSSED THE SITUATION IN DEPTH, AND WHEN FACED WITH OUR NEXT FLT, WE WILL BE MUCH MORE AWARE OF POTENTIAL TAXI AND FLT HAZARDS. I THANK GOD FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE HERE WRITING THIS RPT, MY FIRST SINCE I STARTED FLYING IN 1967, AND SINCE BEING AN AIR TFC CTLR IN 1972 THROUGH 1985. COMPLACENCY DID NOT PLAY A PART IN THIS SITUATION. DISTR, UNFAMILIARITY AND DOING TOO MANY THINGS AT ONE TIME WERE ALL CONTRIBUTIONS TO MY ERROR.
