Narrative:
I was being vectored for downwind to 27L (atl) heading 090. Captain was late calling 'in range' to company and was on another frequency. (Although company provides headsets, captain preferred not to wear.) I was having trouble hearing the controller with both company and ATC on speakers. I apparently heard a similar call sign's directive to turn on a base leg north. The controller vectored me back around to downwind with a left turn. I continued and landed without further events. (ATC commented that we had mistakenly picked up on a turn for other traffic.)

Title: COMMUTER RESPONDS TO WRONG CALL SIGN, HDG DEV.
Narrative: I WAS BEING VECTORED FOR DOWNWIND TO 27L (ATL) HDG 090. CAPT WAS LATE CALLING 'IN RANGE' TO COMPANY AND WAS ON ANOTHER FREQ. (ALTHOUGH COMPANY PROVIDES HEADSETS, CAPT PREFERRED NOT TO WEAR.) I WAS HAVING TROUBLE HEARING THE CTLR WITH BOTH COMPANY AND ATC ON SPEAKERS. I APPARENTLY HEARD A SIMILAR CALL SIGN'S DIRECTIVE TO TURN ON A BASE LEG N. THE CTLR VECTORED ME BACK AROUND TO DOWNWIND WITH A L TURN. I CONTINUED AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER EVENTS. (ATC COMMENTED THAT WE HAD MISTAKENLY PICKED UP ON A TURN FOR OTHER TFC.)
