Narrative:
While navigating through a line of thunderstorms to destination airport, I programmed pms computer wrong for the descent. I misread the mileage of an intersection. As a result, I came over the arrival fix 3000 ft too high. Contributing factors: 1) we were on a modified trip pairing due to ATC phone outages in nyc area. None of the crew got any good rest the night before due to the noisy hotel we stayed at in new york rather than in houston. 2) airline currently in bankruptcy. Captain is so worried about what might happen (merger, liquidation, etc.) that he is out of the loop 95 percent of the time. He does not devote much attention at all to actually doing his job. This is kinda like flying solo. He is constantly talking about rumors, or the association, and needs to pay more attention to the job at hand.
