Narrative:
Adams tower apparently cleared aircraft for takeoff with a left turn to 320 on runway 36. Not sure if PNF read back runway number. Pilot and PNF are sure that PNF read back cleared for takeoff and turn left to heading 320. PF understood runway 4L and proceeded to cross end of runway 36 and onto runway 4L for rolling takeoff. PNF commented mlt looks like it was lined up for our runway (still not calling runway number). Next comment PNF made was 'looks like he's getting pretty close' -- no details giving of distance from runway. PF told PNF 'I'll hurry up and get out of his way'. Then on tower frequency, mlt called he was executing go around, aircraft was taking runway. After hearing mlt to tower, PNF said 'no wonder, we're on the wrong runway'. Aircraft was already rolling down runway for takeoff. Adams tower transmitted to us 'runway assigned was 36, to turn left heading 320, mlt will be turning to 230' (not sure if mlt heading stated here is actually heading tower called for mlt aircraft). Proceeded on takeoff with no further occurrence.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CPR SMT FLC TOOK OFF WRONG RWY AT LIT. MLT HAD TO GAR.
Narrative: ADAMS TWR APPARENTLY CLRED ACFT FOR TKOF WITH A L TURN TO 320 ON RWY 36. NOT SURE IF PNF READ BACK RWY NUMBER. PLT AND PNF ARE SURE THAT PNF READ BACK CLRED FOR TKOF AND TURN L TO HDG 320. PF UNDERSTOOD RWY 4L AND PROCEEDED TO CROSS END OF RWY 36 AND ONTO RWY 4L FOR ROLLING TKOF. PNF COMMENTED MLT LOOKS LIKE IT WAS LINED UP FOR OUR RWY (STILL NOT CALLING RWY NUMBER). NEXT COMMENT PNF MADE WAS 'LOOKS LIKE HE'S GETTING PRETTY CLOSE' -- NO DETAILS GIVING OF DISTANCE FROM RWY. PF TOLD PNF 'I'LL HURRY UP AND GET OUT OF HIS WAY'. THEN ON TWR FREQ, MLT CALLED HE WAS EXECUTING GAR, ACFT WAS TAKING RWY. AFTER HEARING MLT TO TWR, PNF SAID 'NO WONDER, WE'RE ON THE WRONG RWY'. ACFT WAS ALREADY ROLLING DOWN RWY FOR TKOF. ADAMS TWR XMITTED TO US 'RWY ASSIGNED WAS 36, TO TURN L HDG 320, MLT WILL BE TURNING TO 230' (NOT SURE IF MLT HDG STATED HERE IS ACTUALLY HDG TWR CALLED FOR MLT ACFT). PROCEEDED ON TKOF WITH NO FURTHER OCCURRENCE.
