Narrative:

Descending on seter arrival to ont airport. We had several stepdown altitudes. Approaching 13000 ont approach said we had traffic below which indicated they had us in sight. At approximately 12000 ft with clearance to 8000 ft TCASII RA commanded approximately 4000 FPM descent. The alert was terminated approximately 9000 ft which enabled us to slow to 250 KTS passing 10000 ft. The fact that the other aircraft said he had us visually and seeing the commuter lights momentarily lured us into a false sense of security. In retrospect we should have asked for vectors away from traffic!
