Narrative:
We entered downwind to runway 11L at msp at 8000 ft. Later we were cleared to 4000 ft and turned on to base leg. We reported runway in sight for a visual approach. We were cleared for a visual to 11L. Approach control asked if we could get down ok, as we were above normal approach path. Approach control continued to give us traffic and asked again if we could get down ok at about 2-3 mi final. We said yes and continued for a normal landing. As we cleared the runway the first officer said, 'we are still on approach frequency.' we were then cleared to our gate by ground control. After parking, I called the tower and asked if we had any problem by not going to tower frequency for landing and the man I talked to said 'no problem.' approach control did not turn us over to tower on final. There was very little traffic in the area and only 1 commuter twin was ahead of us and he was well clear of the runway. Supplemental information from acn 190917: we did not notice whether tower 'flashed us a green light' or not.

Title: ACR LNDG WITHOUT CLRNC.
Narrative: WE ENTERED DOWNWIND TO RWY 11L AT MSP AT 8000 FT. LATER WE WERE CLRED TO 4000 FT AND TURNED ON TO BASE LEG. WE RPTED RWY IN SIGHT FOR A VISUAL APCH. WE WERE CLRED FOR A VISUAL TO 11L. APCH CTL ASKED IF WE COULD GET DOWN OK, AS WE WERE ABOVE NORMAL APCH PATH. APCH CTL CONTINUED TO GIVE US TFC AND ASKED AGAIN IF WE COULD GET DOWN OK AT ABOUT 2-3 MI FINAL. WE SAID YES AND CONTINUED FOR A NORMAL LNDG. AS WE CLRED THE RWY THE FO SAID, 'WE ARE STILL ON APCH FREQ.' WE WERE THEN CLRED TO OUR GATE BY GND CTL. AFTER PARKING, I CALLED THE TWR AND ASKED IF WE HAD ANY PROBLEM BY NOT GOING TO TWR FREQ FOR LNDG AND THE MAN I TALKED TO SAID 'NO PROBLEM.' APCH CTL DID NOT TURN US OVER TO TWR ON FINAL. THERE WAS VERY LITTLE TFC IN THE AREA AND ONLY 1 COMMUTER TWIN WAS AHEAD OF US AND HE WAS WELL CLR OF THE RWY. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 190917: WE DID NOT NOTICE WHETHER TWR 'FLASHED US A GREEN LIGHT' OR NOT.
