Narrative:
The WX was foggy, RVR 25R 1400, 1000,1000. Runway 25R had been closed and reopened about XX00 PDT. As we were taxiing, a widebody transport took off from 25R. We contacted the tower approaching taxiway 8 and were instructed to taxi full length and into position and hold, 25R. As we moved into position on the runway we were cleared for takeoff. After we were into our takeoff roll I noticed the runway lights were not on. I elected to continue the takeoff because we had adequate forward visibility and we were already about 80-100 KTS. I believe the time of day, WX, and the fact that another aircraft had just taken off from runway 25R are all contributing factors. It was dawn and the sky was beginning to light up making the runway lights less obvious. I was also concentrating on the yellow taxi line and as we moved into position and were cleared for takeoff, I applied power as the first officer was completing the checklist. Therefore his attention was not on the takeoff until we were into the roll. He did not have time to evaluate the situation until we were underway. I have been flying in and out of lax for over 20 yrs, and this is a case of familiarity being a pit fall. Supplemental information from acn 191579. When we turned on the aircraft lights, there was a brilliant reflection from the fog. Forward visibility was adequate. The brilliance of light reflection in the fog, and the fact that another aircraft had just departed on 25R were contributing factors. Early morning light helped to make the runway lights less obvious.

Title: ACR MLG MADE A TKOF AT LAX IN WX REQUIRING RWY CENTERLINE LIGHTS BUT WITH RWY LIGHTS NOT OPERATING.
Narrative: THE WX WAS FOGGY, RVR 25R 1400, 1000,1000. RWY 25R HAD BEEN CLOSED AND REOPENED ABOUT XX00 PDT. AS WE WERE TAXIING, A WDB TOOK OFF FROM 25R. WE CONTACTED THE TWR APCHING TAXIWAY 8 AND WERE INSTRUCTED TO TAXI FULL LENGTH AND INTO POS AND HOLD, 25R. AS WE MOVED INTO POS ON THE RWY WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF. AFTER WE WERE INTO OUR TKOF ROLL I NOTICED THE RWY LIGHTS WERE NOT ON. I ELECTED TO CONTINUE THE TKOF BECAUSE WE HAD ADEQUATE FORWARD VISIBILITY AND WE WERE ALREADY ABOUT 80-100 KTS. I BELIEVE THE TIME OF DAY, WX, AND THE FACT THAT ANOTHER ACFT HAD JUST TAKEN OFF FROM RWY 25R ARE ALL CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. IT WAS DAWN AND THE SKY WAS BEGINNING TO LIGHT UP MAKING THE RWY LIGHTS LESS OBVIOUS. I WAS ALSO CONCENTRATING ON THE YELLOW TAXI LINE AND AS WE MOVED INTO POS AND WERE CLRED FOR TKOF, I APPLIED PWR AS THE FO WAS COMPLETING THE CHKLIST. THEREFORE HIS ATTN WAS NOT ON THE TKOF UNTIL WE WERE INTO THE ROLL. HE DID NOT HAVE TIME TO EVALUATE THE SITUATION UNTIL WE WERE UNDERWAY. I HAVE BEEN FLYING IN AND OUT OF LAX FOR OVER 20 YRS, AND THIS IS A CASE OF FAMILIARITY BEING A PIT FALL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 191579. WHEN WE TURNED ON THE ACFT LIGHTS, THERE WAS A BRILLIANT REFLECTION FROM THE FOG. FORWARD VISIBILITY WAS ADEQUATE. THE BRILLIANCE OF LIGHT REFLECTION IN THE FOG, AND THE FACT THAT ANOTHER ACFT HAD JUST DEPARTED ON 25R WERE CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. EARLY MORNING LIGHT HELPED TO MAKE THE RWY LIGHTS LESS OBVIOUS.
