Narrative:

ATC advised VFR traffic at 9500 ft. We had no visual contact but TCASII showed traffic. -200 ft RA advised climb. First officer asked if he should respond to RA (resolution advisory). I responded yes. The aircraft had to be climbed to 10600 to resolve conflict at which time we spotted the airliner 1 1/2-2 mi at 10 O'clock. We descended back to assigned altitude, 10000.

Narrative: ATC ADVISED VFR TFC AT 9500 FT. WE HAD NO VISUAL CONTACT BUT TCASII SHOWED TFC. -200 FT RA ADVISED CLB. FO ASKED IF HE SHOULD RESPOND TO RA (RESOLUTION ADVISORY). I RESPONDED YES.
