Narrative:
First approach controller assigned runway 26R. As denver was landing runway 26L-right. He vectored aircraft to downwind second approach controller then descended us to 8000 and over the new denver airport turned us to a 170 degree heading. Observed medium large transport Y established on straight- in final to 26L. I visually had us on probable collision course and TCASII responded with TA/RA. Used VMC 'see and avoid' plus TCASII and ordered first officer, who was flying, to execute immediate right turn and climb 100-200 ft to increase lateral separation. Concurrently advised approach that we were turning to intercept 26R final. Her response was to contact tower at altura. The last ATC clearance that we heard, acknowledged, and complied with was the 170 degree heading. Evasive action placed aircraft in position for landing on 26R.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MLG ON VISUAL APCH SEES AND AVOIDS SECOND MLG ON VISUAL APCH TO PARALLEL RWY.
Narrative: FIRST APCH CTLR ASSIGNED RWY 26R. AS DENVER WAS LNDG RWY 26L-R. HE VECTORED ACFT TO DOWNWIND SECOND APCH CTLR THEN DSNDED US TO 8000 AND OVER THE NEW DENVER ARPT TURNED US TO A 170 DEG HDG. OBSERVED MLG Y ESTABLISHED ON STRAIGHT- IN FINAL TO 26L. I VISUALLY HAD US ON PROBABLE COLLISION COURSE AND TCASII RESPONDED WITH TA/RA. USED VMC 'SEE AND AVOID' PLUS TCASII AND ORDERED FO, WHO WAS FLYING, TO EXECUTE IMMEDIATE R TURN AND CLB 100-200 FT TO INCREASE LATERAL SEPARATION. CONCURRENTLY ADVISED APCH THAT WE WERE TURNING TO INTERCEPT 26R FINAL. HER RESPONSE WAS TO CONTACT TWR AT ALTURA. THE LAST ATC CLRNC THAT WE HEARD, ACKNOWLEDGED, AND COMPLIED WITH WAS THE 170 DEG HDG. EVASIVE ACTION PLACED ACFT IN POS FOR LNDG ON 26R.
