Narrative:
After landing at lax on 25L in a strong crosswind, maintenance reported damage to outboard right leading edge flap. Approach and landing progressed normally with first officer flying and applying crosswind techniques as briefed. Touch down appeared normal and on target speed. Swirling winds from tall buildings on century blvd, north of the 25R/left complex caused some instability in the air. But no wind shear guidelines were evident. Nothing out of the ordinary was noticed by flight crew, passengers or flight attendants until notified by maintenance (crew only). Because of the insidious nature of the winds on the final during some santa ana wind condition and the fact that the wind anemometer is at midfield (25L, right), it is recommended that an advisory be placed in all air carrier flight operations manuals. This would advise arriving crews of possibility of landing on 24 right, left when high winds from nnw- n-nne were present.

Title: R LEADING EDGE WING FLAP DAMAGED ON LNDG. FLC UNAWARE. POSTFLT INSPECTION BY GND PERSONNEL.
Narrative: AFTER LNDG AT LAX ON 25L IN A STRONG XWIND, MAINT RPTED DAMAGE TO OUTBOARD R LEADING EDGE FLAP. APCH AND LNDG PROGRESSED NORMALLY WITH FO FLYING AND APPLYING XWIND TECHNIQUES AS BRIEFED. TOUCH DOWN APPEARED NORMAL AND ON TARGET SPD. SWIRLING WINDS FROM TALL BUILDINGS ON CENTURY BLVD, N OF THE 25R/L COMPLEX CAUSED SOME INSTABILITY IN THE AIR. BUT NO WIND SHEAR GUIDELINES WERE EVIDENT. NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WAS NOTICED BY FLC, PAXS OR FLT ATTENDANTS UNTIL NOTIFIED BY MAINT (CREW ONLY). BECAUSE OF THE INSIDIOUS NATURE OF THE WINDS ON THE FINAL DURING SOME SANTA ANA WIND CONDITION AND THE FACT THAT THE WIND ANEMOMETER IS AT MIDFIELD (25L, R), IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT AN ADVISORY BE PLACED IN ALL AIR CARRIER FLT OPS MANUALS. THIS WOULD ADVISE ARRIVING CREWS OF POSSIBILITY OF LNDG ON 24 R, L WHEN HIGH WINDS FROM NNW- N-NNE WERE PRESENT.
