Narrative:
During high speed rollout (above 80 KTS) after landing runway 22R ord, the tower controller began giving taxi instructions to us. We missed the instructions because we were focusing our attention on controling the aircraft. After turning off the runway the tower controller 'blasted' us for not responding to his instructions with an acknowledgement. We informed him in no uncertain terms that we were busy controling the aircraft. He responded that those type of clrncs are 'standard procedures' at ord. I've flown in and out of ord for around 7 yrs and I've never been given a taxi clearance just after touchdown from an ord tower controller until recently. There are 2 times during aircraft operation that are critical to the pilots and those times are takeoff and landing. Even on 2 or 3 pilot aircraft, the attention of the entire crew must be focused on the job at hand. Taxi clrncs or any non vital communications from ATC can only erode safety, even at ord!
