Narrative:
We had been cleared for an ILS to runway 9L in visual conditions into fll airport (ft lauderdale/hollywood international). At approximately 9 mi west at approximately 2000 ft we got a TCASII TA/RA at 12 O'clock. The first officer was flying and I called for a right turn as the TCASII said 'monitor vertical speed!' we saw what we believe was an small aircraft pass approximately 15 ft above and 750 ft to our left in a shallow climbing left turn. We returned to the localizer and completed a normal landing. I reported the right turn for traffic to ATC and they said that there was 'traffic in the area.' our only warning to our knowledge earlier had been TCASII.
