Narrative:
On mar/wed/92, I departed abe for grr. Clearance was cleared as filed, (direct slt direct sym, direct). En route, cruising at 140 on ZNY's 133.5 approximately 28 NM south of the jhw VOR and west of the slt VOR, I realized that center frequency had gotten rather quiet. I called ny twice before I got a response and they replied loud and clear. A few mins later, I called ny to request direct grr. Again, 2 calls before I received a response. Ny's reply was to contact cleveland center 128.65 with my request. Upon chkin in with cleveland, I was informed that I was in the duke MOA which was hot, that cleveland had been trying to contact us for the last 50 NM, and that they thought I had lost my communication equipment. I advised cleveland that I had just been turned over from ZNY 133.5, and that no mention of the duke MOA had been mentioned, and that I had not received any vectors around the MOA. Cleveland inquired as to what my previous frequency had been. At the time, I had a passenger in the right hand cockpit seat who is also a well qualified pilot. Neither of us are aware of hearing a call from ZNY handing us over to cleveland center.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF LTT ATX ACFT INADVERTENTLY PENETRATED AN ACTIVE (HOT) MOA AIRSPACE.
Narrative: ON MAR/WED/92, I DEPARTED ABE FOR GRR. CLRNC WAS CLRED AS FILED, (DIRECT SLT DIRECT SYM, DIRECT). ENRTE, CRUISING AT 140 ON ZNY'S 133.5 APPROX 28 NM S OF THE JHW VOR AND W OF THE SLT VOR, I REALIZED THAT CTR FREQ HAD GOTTEN RATHER QUIET. I CALLED NY TWICE BEFORE I GOT A RESPONSE AND THEY REPLIED LOUD AND CLR. A FEW MINS LATER, I CALLED NY TO REQUEST DIRECT GRR. AGAIN, 2 CALLS BEFORE I RECEIVED A RESPONSE. NY'S REPLY WAS TO CONTACT CLEVELAND CTR 128.65 WITH MY REQUEST. UPON CHKIN IN WITH CLEVELAND, I WAS INFORMED THAT I WAS IN THE DUKE MOA WHICH WAS HOT, THAT CLEVELAND HAD BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT US FOR THE LAST 50 NM, AND THAT THEY THOUGHT I HAD LOST MY COM EQUIP. I ADVISED CLEVELAND THAT I HAD JUST BEEN TURNED OVER FROM ZNY 133.5, AND THAT NO MENTION OF THE DUKE MOA HAD BEEN MENTIONED, AND THAT I HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY VECTORS AROUND THE MOA. CLEVELAND INQUIRED AS TO WHAT MY PREVIOUS FREQ HAD BEEN. AT THE TIME, I HAD A PAX IN THE R HAND COCKPIT SEAT WHO IS ALSO A WELL QUALIFIED PLT. NEITHER OF US ARE AWARE OF HEARING A CALL FROM ZNY HANDING US OVER TO CLEVELAND CTR.
