Narrative:

The glass cockpit was set up for and briefed for a departure on runway 9L at ord. On taxi out, ground control cleared us to taxi to runway 32L at the T1 intersection, which from our location would be a short taxi out. We noticed that we appeared to be #1 for 32L as I turned from the inner taxiway onto T3. As we joined the 14R parallel, we began the before takeoff checklist. Halfway through it, tower asked us if we were ready for takeoff, I answered in the affirmative. Our position was approaching T2 however I thought we were at T1 (dark outside, distracted by checklist). Tower cleared us for takeoff, and a heading of 070 after departure. As I took the runway (still 90 degrees to centerline) I realized we were at 32L at T2 not T1. About this time tower called to advise us of same, and I requested back taxi to T1, tower approved. Lined up, first officer confirmed still cleared for takeoff, started takeoff roll. Climbing through 300 ft AGL, I advised first officer he could start the turn to 070 any time, and at 400 ft AGL pushed the heading select button (which is the min altitude for engagement, and was preselected to 070). The first officer started turning left and the error did not sink in before the tower called 'right to 070, right turn!' the first officer rapidly corrected, before we had turned more than 10-15 degrees. I think this error occurred because: 1) we set up initially for a 9L departure (the quickest way to 070 from 090 is a left turn) and because of the short taxi, high workload, (checklists, checking runway performance data, etc) in our minds we didn't accept or have time to accept that now 32L not 9L was our departure runway. 2) allowing myself to get rushed by ATC (ground and tower), resulting in an error chain starting with taking the runway at the wrong intersection. Supplemental information from acn 204930: our mistake was in allowing tower to rush us into an immediate takeoff before we discussed the departure from a different runway than planned.

Narrative: THE GLASS COCKPIT WAS SET UP FOR AND BRIEFED FOR A DEP ON RWY 9L AT ORD. ON TAXI OUT, GND CTL CLRED US TO TAXI TO RWY 32L AT THE T1 INTXN, WHICH FROM OUR LOCATION WOULD BE A SHORT TAXI OUT. WE NOTICED THAT WE APPEARED TO BE #1 FOR 32L AS I TURNED FROM THE INNER TAXIWAY ONTO T3. AS WE JOINED THE 14R PARALLEL, WE BEGAN THE BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST. HALFWAY THROUGH IT, TWR ASKED US IF WE WERE READY FOR TKOF, I ANSWERED IN THE AFFIRMATIVE. OUR POS WAS APCHING T2 HOWEVER I THOUGHT WE WERE AT T1 (DARK OUTSIDE, DISTRACTED BY CHKLIST). TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF, AND A HDG OF 070 AFTER DEP. AS I TOOK THE RWY (STILL 90 DEGS TO CTRLINE) I REALIZED WE WERE AT 32L AT T2 NOT T1. ABOUT THIS TIME TWR CALLED TO ADVISE US OF SAME, AND I REQUESTED BACK TAXI TO T1, TWR APPROVED. LINED UP, FO CONFIRMED STILL CLRED FOR TKOF, STARTED TKOF ROLL. CLBING THROUGH 300 FT AGL, I ADVISED FO HE COULD START THE TURN TO 070 ANY TIME, AND AT 400 FT AGL PUSHED THE HDG SELECT BUTTON (WHICH IS THE MIN ALT FOR ENGAGEMENT, AND WAS PRESELECTED TO 070). THE FO STARTED TURNING L AND THE ERROR DID NOT SINK IN BEFORE THE TWR CALLED 'R TO 070, R TURN!' THE FO RAPIDLY CORRECTED, BEFORE WE HAD TURNED MORE THAN 10-15 DEGS. I THINK THIS ERROR OCCURRED BECAUSE: 1) WE SET UP INITIALLY FOR A 9L DEP (THE QUICKEST WAY TO 070 FROM 090 IS A L TURN) AND BECAUSE OF THE SHORT TAXI, HIGH WORKLOAD, (CHKLISTS, CHKING RWY PERFORMANCE DATA, ETC) IN OUR MINDS WE DIDN'T ACCEPT OR HAVE TIME TO ACCEPT THAT NOW 32L NOT 9L WAS OUR DEP RWY. 2) ALLOWING MYSELF TO GET RUSHED BY ATC (GND AND TWR), RESULTING IN AN ERROR CHAIN STARTING WITH TAKING THE RWY AT THE WRONG INTXN. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 204930: OUR MISTAKE WAS IN ALLOWING TWR TO RUSH US INTO AN IMMEDIATE TKOF BEFORE WE DISCUSSED THE DEP FROM A DIFFERENT RWY THAN PLANNED.
