Narrative:
I was ferrying (on a permit) an small aircraft from meriden, ct, to palmer, ma. On approach to palmer (short final) I encountered an unacceptable sink rate, so I advanced the throttle. No engine response occurred so I altered my course to a dirt area between a road and a quarry pit. The airplane went slowly over on it's back in the soft earth. I feel that I must have gotten carburetor ice even though I had carburetor heat on. The reason I now believe this is because the following day the engine ran well. Upon inspection of the carburetor, no malfunction was noted.
