Narrative:

Approximately 8 DME from the IAF to runway 31C at chicago's midway airport on an intercept heading to join the localizer our TCASII indicated a TA (conflict) followed shortly thereafter by an RA to initiate a climb. An immediate climb was initiated to avoid the traffic. Traffic was visually referenced as he passed off the left side of the aircraft. We climbed from 4000-4800 ft before the TCASII indicated that we were clear of traffic. The controller never advised us of the traffic. Once we were clear of traffic we advised the controller of a near miss and proceeded to midway and landed. Major problem: the approach leading into mdw is over numerous private airports and all the airspace in uncontrolled!

Title: ACR FLC RESPONDED TO A TCASII WARNING AND CLBED THE ACFT DURING DSCNT FOR APCH RESULTING IN AN NMAC WITH ANOTHER ACFT.

Narrative: APPROX 8 DME FROM THE IAF TO RWY 31C AT CHICAGO'S MIDWAY ARPT ON AN INTERCEPT HDG TO JOIN THE LOC OUR TCASII INDICATED A TA (CONFLICT) FOLLOWED SHORTLY THEREAFTER BY AN RA TO INITIATE A CLB. AN IMMEDIATE CLB WAS INITIATED TO AVOID THE TFC. TFC WAS VISUALLY REFED AS HE PASSED OFF THE L SIDE OF THE ACFT. WE CLBED FROM 4000-4800 FT BEFORE THE TCASII INDICATED THAT WE WERE CLR OF TFC. THE CTLR NEVER ADVISED US OF THE TFC. ONCE WE WERE CLR OF TFC WE ADVISED THE CTLR OF A NEAR MISS AND PROCEEDED TO MIDWAY AND LANDED. MAJOR PROBLEM: THE APCH LEADING INTO MDW IS OVER NUMEROUS PRIVATE ARPTS AND ALL THE AIRSPACE IN UNCTLED!
