Narrative:
En route rdu at 8000 ft approach control called traffic, medium large transport aircraft, climbing to 7000 ft ahead. TCASII alert received for a TA, then approximately 10-15 seconds later, another TCASII alert received for an RA at which point the captain initiated a position climb and the first officer contacted approach control and advised that the aircraft had climbed to avoid conflicting traffic and that TCASII alerts had been received. Aircraft leveled at 9000 ft with no further TCASII alerts.

Title: CAPT OF MLG ACR ACFT RESPONDED TO A TCASII RA AND CLBED ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT CAUSING NO CONFLICT.
Narrative: ENRTE RDU AT 8000 FT APCH CTL CALLED TFC, MLG ACFT, CLBING TO 7000 FT AHEAD. TCASII ALERT RECEIVED FOR A TA, THEN APPROX 10-15 SECONDS LATER, ANOTHER TCASII ALERT RECEIVED FOR AN RA AT WHICH POINT THE CAPT INITIATED A POS CLB AND THE FO CONTACTED APCH CTL AND ADVISED THAT THE ACFT HAD CLBED TO AVOID CONFLICTING TFC AND THAT TCASII ALERTS HAD BEEN RECEIVED. ACFT LEVELED AT 9000 FT WITH NO FURTHER TCASII ALERTS.
