While proceeding direct syr VOR, traffic popped up off our 11 O'clock position. Traffic was climbing towards our altitude TCASII issued climb. We did not have visual, so first officer disconnected autoplt and established climb. At 11300 ft TCASII called clear of conflict. We returned to 11000 ft. Boston center was contacted and advised of deviation. He switched us over to syr approach.
