Narrative:
ATC advised light transport jet at 1-2 O'clock FL280 as traffic for us (we were at FL290). A min or so later, our TCASII issued a 'climb' aural warning, and I disconnected the autoplt and climbed to 29500 ft while the copilot told center what we were doing. I did notice the red square illuminated on the TCASII, but because the sun was shining directly across the display, I could not read the altitude. At 29500 ft, the TCASII aural warning changed to 'monitor vertical speed.' when we were 'clear of conflict,' I descended back to FL290, asked center if there was any conflict with our climb to 29500 ft (he said 'no'), and continued. I can think of nothing to explain this occurrence, or how to prevent it in the future. Perhaps my TCASII was in error, but because I could not see the light transport jet, I had to climb.

Title: CAPT OF MLG ACR ACFT RESPONDED TO A TCASII RA AND CLBED ABOVE ASSIGNED ALT UNTIL RECEIVING AN ALL CLR.
Narrative: ATC ADVISED LTT JET AT 1-2 O'CLOCK FL280 AS TFC FOR US (WE WERE AT FL290). A MIN OR SO LATER, OUR TCASII ISSUED A 'CLB' AURAL WARNING, AND I DISCONNECTED THE AUTOPLT AND CLBED TO 29500 FT WHILE THE COPLT TOLD CTR WHAT WE WERE DOING. I DID NOTICE THE RED SQUARE ILLUMINATED ON THE TCASII, BUT BECAUSE THE SUN WAS SHINING DIRECTLY ACROSS THE DISPLAY, I COULD NOT READ THE ALT. AT 29500 FT, THE TCASII AURAL WARNING CHANGED TO 'MONITOR VERT SPD.' WHEN WE WERE 'CLR OF CONFLICT,' I DSNDED BACK TO FL290, ASKED CTR IF THERE WAS ANY CONFLICT WITH OUR CLB TO 29500 FT (HE SAID 'NO'), AND CONTINUED. I CAN THINK OF NOTHING TO EXPLAIN THIS OCCURRENCE, OR HOW TO PREVENT IT IN THE FUTURE. PERHAPS MY TCASII WAS IN ERROR, BUT BECAUSE I COULD NOT SEE THE LTT JET, I HAD TO CLB.
