Narrative:

Rushing a lifeguard mission in our light transport jet, we were given our initial heading after setting engine power. I read back the heading of 005 degrees but as I looked up from the departure checklist at approximately 900 ft AGL we had started a turn about 20 degrees in the wrong direction of turn. We immediately corrected just as departure control asked our heading. I felt no conflict had taken place. I feel the problem is due to poor acknowledgement of crew member communications.
