Narrative:

Medium large transport X northbound on vectors to ILS runway 6 at bdl descending from 10000, and an small aircraft Y VFR wbound climbing to 6500. Small aircraft Y was told that 'upon reaching 6500 ft' to 'report prior to changing altitude.' when aircraft were approximately 10 mi apart, traffic was exchanged. Small aircraft Y was misrpted to medium large transport X as being an small aircraft ya type. Small aircraft Y reported medium large transport X in sight. Medium large transport X was still looking for the traffic. At this point the data tags overlapped and were basically unreadable. (No excuse for this I wasn't busy enough to insure that they didn't.) medium large transport X then shouted 'is it an small aircraft Y?' I replied that it might be. He should be passing beneath him at that time (data tags unreadable). Medium large transport X then reported that the traffic had just overflown him. When data tags separated the small aircraft Y was 1/2 mi behind and 100 ft above medium large transport X. When questioned the small aircraft Y pilot stated he was trying to avoid medium large transport X wake turbulence. The problem here was that the pilot did not report changing his altitude and that I allowed the data tags to overlap and therefore did not see the small aircraft Y climbing through his supposed cruising altitude. Hopefully a lesson learned on both parts. Also: when passing traffic, ensure that you know the correct aircraft type if available. Supplemental information from acn 209977: medium large transport was then cleared from 7000 through my altitude to 5000 and a turn into me. I had leveled at 6500 and was keeping visual separation from the traffic. Medium large transport was advised of an small aircraft Y aircraft at my position. The captain then asked if bdl ATC was picking up an small aircraft X, high wing not an small aircraft Y, low wing that was higher than himself. At this time I already started evasive action to avoid the jet and his wake turbulence by climbing and a left turn to 7000. ATC told medium large transport jet to look for an small aircraft Y when I was an small aircraft X and turned him right and descended him through my altitude and at me. I was busy flying and calming my passenger down and gained 500 ft between all that to notify ATC. Communication between the controller and medium large transport was not good and I failed to notify ATC of my evasive action to avoid the jet. ATC should have not turned the jet until I was in sight by the jet or give me a vector around him or vice versa. I acted on see and avoid.

Title: MLG HAS NMAC WITH VFR SMA TFC.

Narrative: MLG X NBOUND ON VECTORS TO ILS RWY 6 AT BDL DSNDING FROM 10000, AND AN SMA Y VFR WBOUND CLBING TO 6500. SMA Y WAS TOLD THAT 'UPON REACHING 6500 FT' TO 'RPT PRIOR TO CHANGING ALT.' WHEN ACFT WERE APPROX 10 MI APART, TFC WAS EXCHANGED. SMA Y WAS MISRPTED TO MLG X AS BEING AN SMA YA TYPE. SMA Y RPTED MLG X IN SIGHT. MLG X WAS STILL LOOKING FOR THE TFC. AT THIS POINT THE DATA TAGS OVERLAPPED AND WERE BASICALLY UNREADABLE. (NO EXCUSE FOR THIS I WASN'T BUSY ENOUGH TO INSURE THAT THEY DIDN'T.) MLG X THEN SHOUTED 'IS IT AN SMA Y?' I REPLIED THAT IT MIGHT BE. HE SHOULD BE PASSING BENEATH HIM AT THAT TIME (DATA TAGS UNREADABLE). MLG X THEN RPTED THAT THE TFC HAD JUST OVERFLOWN HIM. WHEN DATA TAGS SEPARATED THE SMA Y WAS 1/2 MI BEHIND AND 100 FT ABOVE MLG X. WHEN QUESTIONED THE SMA Y PLT STATED HE WAS TRYING TO AVOID MLG X WAKE TURB. THE PROBLEM HERE WAS THAT THE PLT DID NOT RPT CHANGING HIS ALT AND THAT I ALLOWED THE DATA TAGS TO OVERLAP AND THEREFORE DID NOT SEE THE SMA Y CLBING THROUGH HIS SUPPOSED CRUISING ALT. HOPEFULLY A LESSON LEARNED ON BOTH PARTS. ALSO: WHEN PASSING TFC, ENSURE THAT YOU KNOW THE CORRECT ACFT TYPE IF AVAILABLE. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 209977: MLG WAS THEN CLRED FROM 7000 THROUGH MY ALT TO 5000 AND A TURN INTO ME. I HAD LEVELED AT 6500 AND WAS KEEPING VISUAL SEPARATION FROM THE TFC. MLG WAS ADVISED OF AN SMA Y ACFT AT MY POS. THE CAPT THEN ASKED IF BDL ATC WAS PICKING UP AN SMA X, HIGH WING NOT AN SMA Y, LOW WING THAT WAS HIGHER THAN HIMSELF. AT THIS TIME I ALREADY STARTED EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID THE JET AND HIS WAKE TURB BY CLBING AND A L TURN TO 7000. ATC TOLD MLG JET TO LOOK FOR AN SMA Y WHEN I WAS AN SMA X AND TURNED HIM R AND DSNDED HIM THROUGH MY ALT AND AT ME. I WAS BUSY FLYING AND CALMING MY PAX DOWN AND GAINED 500 FT BTWN ALL THAT TO NOTIFY ATC. COM BTWN THE CTLR AND MLG WAS NOT GOOD AND I FAILED TO NOTIFY ATC OF MY EVASIVE ACTION TO AVOID THE JET. ATC SHOULD HAVE NOT TURNED THE JET UNTIL I WAS IN SIGHT BY THE JET OR GIVE ME A VECTOR AROUND HIM OR VICE VERSA. I ACTED ON SEE AND AVOID.
