Narrative:
This regards a taxi incident in which the left wingtip of my aircraft crossed over the right tip of the adjacent aircraft scratching both wingtips. About 5 mins prior to taxi out a ground crewman came to the cockpit and said we should turn right during initial taxi to get more separation from the aircraft on the left. I then left the cockpit to examine the clearance and it appeared that my left wingtip was aft of the other wingtip about 8-10 ft, but with 3-4 ft lateral separation. So, I concurred with a right turning taxi-out. During taxi, I followed the ground crew signals to taxi forward and right, to stop suddenly, and to continue a forward right taxi. As we were moving, I felt no contact, but the captain of the other aircraft did feel the contact and came rushing out to signal a stop. We found scratches on both wingtips. Maintenance burnished the scratches and we were on our way. Hindsight says I should have had a tug repos the aircraft which I will surely do should the situation arise in the future.

Title: AIR CARRIER MLG ACFT STRUCK WINGTIP OF A PARKED ACFT DURING TAXI-OUT FROM GATE.
Narrative: THIS REGARDS A TAXI INCIDENT IN WHICH THE L WINGTIP OF MY ACFT CROSSED OVER THE R TIP OF THE ADJACENT ACFT SCRATCHING BOTH WINGTIPS. ABOUT 5 MINS PRIOR TO TAXI OUT A GND CREWMAN CAME TO THE COCKPIT AND SAID WE SHOULD TURN R DURING INITIAL TAXI TO GET MORE SEPARATION FROM THE ACFT ON THE L. I THEN LEFT THE COCKPIT TO EXAMINE THE CLRNC AND IT APPEARED THAT MY L WINGTIP WAS AFT OF THE OTHER WINGTIP ABOUT 8-10 FT, BUT WITH 3-4 FT LATERAL SEPARATION. SO, I CONCURRED WITH A R TURNING TAXI-OUT. DURING TAXI, I FOLLOWED THE GND CREW SIGNALS TO TAXI FORWARD AND R, TO STOP SUDDENLY, AND TO CONTINUE A FORWARD R TAXI. AS WE WERE MOVING, I FELT NO CONTACT, BUT THE CAPT OF THE OTHER ACFT DID FEEL THE CONTACT AND CAME RUSHING OUT TO SIGNAL A STOP. WE FOUND SCRATCHES ON BOTH WINGTIPS. MAINT BURNISHED THE SCRATCHES AND WE WERE ON OUR WAY. HINDSIGHT SAYS I SHOULD HAVE HAD A TUG REPOS THE ACFT WHICH I WILL SURELY DO SHOULD THE SITUATION ARISE IN THE FUTURE.
