Narrative:

Contacted bay approach abeam san jose. Was given squawk code and told to maintain maximum forward speed. 2 handoffs later, bay approach said I would be overtaking an small aircraft sel aircraft on final approach and to land in front of him on runway 27R. Then was told to switch to 27L and a min later back to 27R. Just as I was handed off to oakland tower I overtook the small aircraft sel aircraft. The tower told him to offset to the left before I was able to contact the tower. I had the small aircraft sel aircraft in sight for at least the last 3 mi and did not have to deviate from the centerline of runway 27R to avoid him. The passenger in the small aircraft sel aircraft happened to be an FAA examiner and questioned me after landing, saying I startled him. He took my license number and said he'd 'check the tapes' to verify my version of the events. Conclusion: oakland needs a more specific VFR approach and flow control for planes entering from out of the area VFR. The handoff to the tower came a little late.

Title: NMAC BTWN 2 SMA SEL ACFT ON FINAL AT A BUSY CTLED ARPT.

Narrative: CONTACTED BAY APCH ABEAM SAN JOSE. WAS GIVEN SQUAWK CODE AND TOLD TO MAINTAIN MAX FORWARD SPD. 2 HDOFS LATER, BAY APCH SAID I WOULD BE OVERTAKING AN SMA SEL ACFT ON FINAL APCH AND TO LAND IN FRONT OF HIM ON RWY 27R. THEN WAS TOLD TO SWITCH TO 27L AND A MIN LATER BACK TO 27R. JUST AS I WAS HANDED OFF TO OAKLAND TWR I OVERTOOK THE SMA SEL ACFT. THE TWR TOLD HIM TO OFFSET TO THE L BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO CONTACT THE TWR. I HAD THE SMA SEL ACFT IN SIGHT FOR AT LEAST THE LAST 3 MI AND DID NOT HAVE TO DEVIATE FROM THE CTRLINE OF RWY 27R TO AVOID HIM. THE PAX IN THE SMA SEL ACFT HAPPENED TO BE AN FAA EXAMINER AND QUESTIONED ME AFTER LNDG, SAYING I STARTLED HIM. HE TOOK MY LICENSE NUMBER AND SAID HE'D 'CHK THE TAPES' TO VERIFY MY VERSION OF THE EVENTS. CONCLUSION: OAKLAND NEEDS A MORE SPECIFIC VFR APCH AND FLOW CTL FOR PLANES ENTERING FROM OUT OF THE AREA VFR. THE HDOF TO THE TWR CAME A LITTLE LATE.
