Narrative:

Noticed 'a' system fluid low pressure light flickering. Checked quantity and observed at 0. Performed abnormal checklists and notified company and ATC. We declared an emergency formally with washington center when they indicated they were advised by company. Chose lower altitude and speed and continued on to our destination of ewr. Made a successful emergency landing at ewr to a full stop. We were towed from the runway to our gate without further incident. We had plenty of time to work the problem and company procedures are very precise and clear. The flight engineer had also recently had the same problem, so was an invaluable help. I worked with him while the first officer assumed flying duties. This worked very well, and with inputs from both the first officer and flight engineer, we brought it to a successful conclusion. Crew coordination worked very well because we had a good cockpit atmosphere which really is essential to working together.
