Narrative:
While taxiing to the active runway 27, the ground controller apparently instructed me to taxi to and hold short of runway 14/32. At the time that transmission was made, my wife was saying something through the intercom. I did not hear the controller's instructions clearly or completely due to the simultaneous inputs. Just after starting to cross runway 14/32, the controller advised that I was crossing an active runway. At this time, I made a 180 degree turn to clear the runway. No other aircraft were using runway 14/32 when this occurred so there was no evasive action required by others. The principal error was to assume that I had heard both conversations correctly and had not requested clarification or a 'say again' from the controller.

Title: PLT OF SMA ACFT FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY DURING TAXI FOR TKOF.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING TO THE ACTIVE RWY 27, THE GND CTLR APPARENTLY INSTRUCTED ME TO TAXI TO AND HOLD SHORT OF RWY 14/32. AT THE TIME THAT XMISSION WAS MADE, MY WIFE WAS SAYING SOMETHING THROUGH THE INTERCOM. I DID NOT HEAR THE CTLR'S INSTRUCTIONS CLRLY OR COMPLETELY DUE TO THE SIMULTANEOUS INPUTS. JUST AFTER STARTING TO CROSS RWY 14/32, THE CTLR ADVISED THAT I WAS XING AN ACTIVE RWY. AT THIS TIME, I MADE A 180 DEG TURN TO CLR THE RWY. NO OTHER ACFT WERE USING RWY 14/32 WHEN THIS OCCURRED SO THERE WAS NO EVASIVE ACTION REQUIRED BY OTHERS. THE PRINCIPAL ERROR WAS TO ASSUME THAT I HAD HEARD BOTH CONVERSATIONS CORRECTLY AND HAD NOT REQUESTED CLARIFICATION OR A 'SAY AGAIN' FROM THE CTLR.
