Narrative:
Cleared to taxi to runway 28L. Acknowledged the clearance. As the aircraft (small aircraft) approached intersecting runway 24, the controller came on the line and ordered to expedite taxi to clear 24 (small aircraft on short final). I recall reading back the clearance to taxi to runway 28L. The tower personnel tape does not show my complete readback. I believe I started to read back the clearance before the controller finished giving me the clearance. This may have caused me to not hear the hold short clearance and tower to not hear my complete readback. I heard about the accident after I returned from the flight. At no time did the tower acknowledge a possible violation or runway incursion. The incident is being investigated by the lansing tower supervisor.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF SMA ACFT FAILED TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY DURING TAXI FOR TKOF.
Narrative: CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 28L. ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLRNC. AS THE ACFT (SMA) APCHED INTERSECTING RWY 24, THE CTLR CAME ON THE LINE AND ORDERED TO EXPEDITE TAXI TO CLR 24 (SMA ON SHORT FINAL). I RECALL READING BACK THE CLRNC TO TAXI TO RWY 28L. THE TWR PERSONNEL TAPE DOES NOT SHOW MY COMPLETE READBACK. I BELIEVE I STARTED TO READ BACK THE CLRNC BEFORE THE CTLR FINISHED GIVING ME THE CLRNC. THIS MAY HAVE CAUSED ME TO NOT HEAR THE HOLD SHORT CLRNC AND TWR TO NOT HEAR MY COMPLETE READBACK. I HEARD ABOUT THE ACCIDENT AFTER I RETURNED FROM THE FLT. AT NO TIME DID THE TWR ACKNOWLEDGE A POSSIBLE VIOLATION OR RWY INCURSION. THE INCIDENT IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE LANSING TWR SUPVR.
