Narrative:
Precautionary landing on an interstate 15 between slc, ut, and byi, identification. My wingman ran out of fuel and landed on interstate. I landed to assist on ground for refuel. We took off 40 mins later with no incident. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: both aircraft, nearly identical, paid for fuel at an en route airport north of slc. It is speculated that fuel for one of the aircraft was actually put into another aircraft on the line. Both aircraft landed on interstate 15 with no aircraft or traffic problems. Fuel was transferred from the aircraft with plenty of fuel to the one with no fuel. A passing state trooper stopped traffic so that the aircraft could takeoff. There has been no action from the FAA or the state highway people.

Title: AN SMT LANDED ON A HWY WITH NO FUEL. HIS WINGMAN LANDED AND TRANSFERRED FUEL. BOTH THEN FLEW ON TO THEIR DEST.
Narrative: PRECAUTIONARY LNDG ON AN INTERSTATE 15 BTWN SLC, UT, AND BYI, ID. MY WINGMAN RAN OUT OF FUEL AND LANDED ON INTERSTATE. I LANDED TO ASSIST ON GND FOR REFUEL. WE TOOK OFF 40 MINS LATER WITH NO INCIDENT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: BOTH ACFT, NEARLY IDENTICAL, PAID FOR FUEL AT AN ENRTE ARPT N OF SLC. IT IS SPECULATED THAT FUEL FOR ONE OF THE ACFT WAS ACTUALLY PUT INTO ANOTHER ACFT ON THE LINE. BOTH ACFT LANDED ON INTERSTATE 15 WITH NO ACFT OR TFC PROBLEMS. FUEL WAS TRANSFERRED FROM THE ACFT WITH PLENTY OF FUEL TO THE ONE WITH NO FUEL. A PASSING STATE TROOPER STOPPED TFC SO THAT THE ACFT COULD TKOF. THERE HAS BEEN NO ACTION FROM THE FAA OR THE STATE HWY PEOPLE.
