Narrative:
I was going to portland because of low fuel. Portland approach was vectoring me for the ILS 28R approach. They needed me at 170 KTS to the marker. I said ok. As I got to the marker I had picked up large amount of ice. I was on autoplt at this time. Went to turn off autoplt and plane was very heavy to control. Caught me off guard. Was trying to slow down to get gear and flaps down. But lost heading and altitude was descending fast. Though scan saw problem, got in to fast ascent. 3000 ft was last assigned. Went from about 1800-2000 ft back up to 4000 ft. When was in descent mode so went back down and up. First, I should not have taken the 170 KTS to marker. I couldn't get it slowed down. I had come out of tucson, az, and had a long day to that point and when I saw what had happened I did all I could to get plane straight and level. But this was the most ice I had flown in. Was not good judgement to try and do total flight in 1 day due to winds and WX.
