Narrative:
Jan/wed/93, air carrier flight ny to ft myers, fl, 29000 ft cruise, 50 mi north of tampa, first officer flying aircraft. Got an RA on the TCASII traffic -- traffic -- climb -- climb. I grabbed the controls, disconnected the autoplt and commenced an immediate climb while receiving additional verbal instruction, monitor rate of climb -- monitor rate of climb. Glancing at the scope the red colored intruder was touching the nose of my aircraft and moved quickly aft to cover the symbol of my aircraft. Then the voice said -- clear of conflict -- clear of conflict. This entire sequence of events all occurred in approximately 8 to 14 seconds. I climbed to 29500 ft, gave the aircraft back to the first officer who began a descent back to 29000 ft. I informed center of the deviation and asked who the traffic was proceeding off the scope to our rear. She stated she had military traffic at 280.
