Narrative:

During taxi in, right main failed to stay on pavement. Normal engine power was sufficient to return gear to pavement and continue taxi without damage or incident. Crew was somewhat fatigued after long duty day (about 12:40 hours). Recommend brighter taxiway lights to identify txwys. There is also a lot of confusion still as to whether taxiway D is closed from runway to ramp to aircraft over 70000 pounds or just restr. Air carrier 10-9 page in manual shows part closed but it still has blue taxi lights on it. Supplemental information from acn 232627: during taxi in, mistook taxiway D for C. Supplemental information from acn 232339: the captain taxied clear of runway 2 after the copilot's landing, and had the airfield diagram displayed. While I was running my after landing checklists, the right gear slipped off taxiway D. No damage found. Only mud on tires. We started #2 and #3 and got back on taxiway, never using more than 1.3 EPR. The captain did an excellent job and reported the event to company. Company reported to FAA. Recommended action: widen and stress taxiway D for all operators. It is the most logical taxi route to and from gate area to parallel taxiway. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: blue taxiway lights exist on taxiway D between taxiway a and the ramp but the chart shows that the taxiway is closed (an 'X' appears on the chart). Other large transport have taxied successfully on this closed segment and captain may have cut the turn a little. Reporter admits that he did not pay attention to the notes on the chart, assuming that it refered to birds in the area.
