Narrative:
Controller advised of traffic. I called traffic in sight but could not tell direction of flight. TCASII gave climb command. We started a climb and controller questioned us on our actions. We stated that since TCASII gave command to climb, we did. He stated he didn't think it was necessary if we had traffic in sight.
