Narrative:

Received a 'climb' RA. Cancelled autoplt and initiated climb immediately putting ivsi needle into green arc. By the time TCASII cleared itself we had passed through 12000 and reached 12400. We started back down to 11000 and were queried by ATC. They seemed quite upset that we had left 11000 without asking them first.

Title: MDT RECEIVED TCASII RA AND HAD TO CLB 1400 FT BEFORE THE RA SILENCED.

Narrative: RECEIVED A 'CLB' RA. CANCELLED AUTOPLT AND INITIATED CLB IMMEDIATELY PUTTING IVSI NEEDLE INTO GREEN ARC. BY THE TIME TCASII CLRED ITSELF WE HAD PASSED THROUGH 12000 AND REACHED 12400. WE STARTED BACK DOWN TO 11000 AND WERE QUERIED BY ATC. THEY SEEMED QUITE UPSET THAT WE HAD LEFT 11000 WITHOUT ASKING THEM FIRST.
