Narrative:

I was flying sbound on a predetermined bearing of 156 degrees. I contacted cos approach on the 118.5 frequency. At this time I was directly off of the 330 degree radial of cos VORTAC. Upon contacting cos approach there was a break in the ATC transmission. I called back to reconfirm transponder code after telling him of the break. At this point, I was climbing to 9500 ft to transition the cos arsa and saw what appeared to be a single engine high wing aircraft. The position of his aircraft was at 9 O'clock from my own and diving. He was traveling wnw. After making visual contact, I immediately increased my rate of climb. After this incident cos approach verified radar contact and confirmed climb to 9500 ft. No mention was made by ATC. I continued along bearing 156 degrees to publication and after a short stop continued back to apa. This incident arose due to the nature of VFR which is sight and avoidance. It was discovered by myself and the other pilot making visual contact. There were no contributing factors. The corrective actions taken were myself continuing in a climb and turning right, other pilot diving.

Title: 2 SMA ACFT HAVE NMAC N OF COS.

Narrative: I WAS FLYING SBOUND ON A PREDETERMINED BEARING OF 156 DEGS. I CONTACTED COS APCH ON THE 118.5 FREQ. AT THIS TIME I WAS DIRECTLY OFF OF THE 330 DEG RADIAL OF COS VORTAC. UPON CONTACTING COS APCH THERE WAS A BREAK IN THE ATC XMISSION. I CALLED BACK TO RECONFIRM XPONDER CODE AFTER TELLING HIM OF THE BREAK. AT THIS POINT, I WAS CLBING TO 9500 FT TO TRANSITION THE COS ARSA AND SAW WHAT APPEARED TO BE A SINGLE ENG HIGH WING ACFT. THE POS OF HIS ACFT WAS AT 9 O'CLOCK FROM MY OWN AND DIVING. HE WAS TRAVELING WNW. AFTER MAKING VISUAL CONTACT, I IMMEDIATELY INCREASED MY RATE OF CLB. AFTER THIS INCIDENT COS APCH VERIFIED RADAR CONTACT AND CONFIRMED CLB TO 9500 FT. NO MENTION WAS MADE BY ATC. I CONTINUED ALONG BEARING 156 DEGS TO PUB AND AFTER A SHORT STOP CONTINUED BACK TO APA. THIS INCIDENT AROSE DUE TO THE NATURE OF VFR WHICH IS SIGHT AND AVOIDANCE. IT WAS DISCOVERED BY MYSELF AND THE OTHER PLT MAKING VISUAL CONTACT. THERE WERE NO CONTRIBUTING FACTORS. THE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN WERE MYSELF CONTINUING IN A CLB AND TURNING R, OTHER PLT DIVING.
