Narrative:

The flight attendant mid-cabin chime went off between 11000 and 10000 ft on approach to lax, approximately 30-35 NM east of lax. A very agitated flight attendant said some passenger were fighting and one of them was bleeding. I immediately made a PA demanding everyone situation down and notified airline's ramp control of the situation, confirmed the gate number for arrival, and requested supervisor and security personnel meet the aircraft. The copilot was flying and handling ATC communication. When I returned to ATC the copilot said that we had been cleared to land on the runway 24 complex. I told lax tower that we had a disturbance on board and requested a visual approach to runway 25R with no delay in taxi to gate. Lax tower immediately cleared us visual runway 25R with a clearance directly to the gate on tower frequency. The flight was met by supervisory personnel, lax security forces, and paramedics. With a 3-MAN crew, I could have sent the flight engineer back to assess a potentially dangerous situation. A 2-MAN crew prevented me from exercising that option and I had to rely on flight attendants to control the situation.

LAX TWR IMMEDIATELY CLRED US VISUAL RWY 25R WITH A CLRNC DIRECTLY TO THE GATE ON TWR FREQ. THE FLT WAS MET BY SUPERVISORY PERSONNEL, LAX SECURITY FORCES, AND PARAMEDICS. WITH A 3-MAN CREW, I COULD HAVE SENT THE FE BACK TO ASSESS A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SIT. A 2-MAN CREW PREVENTED ME FROM EXERCISING THAT OPTION AND I HAD TO RELY ON FLT ATTENDANTS TO CTL THE SIT.
