Narrative:
Air carrier X on approach turning from 350 degrees to 060 degrees, descending from 7000 ft to 4000 ft, got TCASII TA followed shortly after by RA -- climb, climb. We started climb, looked at scope. Traffic was just showing level, 12 O'clock, about 1 1/2 mi or less. We climbed 699-700 ft, traffic went past. We notified approach control we had climbed and were not resuming descent. Controller said there was traffic at 6000 ft.
