Narrative:
In sum: an small aircraft with instructor and student aboard hit a snow berm with a wing tip while taxiing out at akron airport, ny, at night. There were no NOTAMS published or any other advisories published to warn low wing aircraft of the snow hazard. The left wing tip was damaged in spite of the best efforts of the crew to avoid the berm. The pilot states that he could have back taxied on the runway, and would have, had he known of the taxiway condition.
