Narrative:

During initial climb out of mxp departure control advised that we were following the wrong SID. They said we were following voghera 51 but were cleared via voghera 52. It is possible that a misunderstanding developed at the time of clearance receipt. Contributing factors would have been: although we had requested clearance prior to engine start and taxi, we did not receive it until we were at end of runway ready to go. That creates a high workload in a glass cockpit. Flight plan was filed via golta 51 and FMC was loaded that way. When given a new SID, it was probably too easy to punch up voghera 51. We were expecting one that ended in 51. Difficulty understanding controller's english may have contributed.
