Narrative:
Tonight a friend told me that I was using an unassigned frequency for private conversation improperly. Not me, I wouldn't do that. Heck, I've been doing it for yrs...'hey ATC, have north number meet me on frequency so and so. Well, so and so frequency, which I knew was not locally assigned within my area, was a frequency I just picked off as ease of selecting. Well, tonight that frequency, although a couple of hundred mi away, was an ATC center frequency in use. I didn't realize this immediately, thank goodness that 'just good old boy, how's the family' stuff. The conversation was brief, but did cut in on someone many mi away. Later another friend who also heard me tell so and so to switch to whatever frequency, my other friend, phoned me and informed me that some place known to others is a frequency for specifically pilot-to-pilot communications. Now I know better. I'm trying to find it in the aim. Another mistake I'll learn from. I just hope I continue to grow older and smarter.
