Narrative:
Approaching hold short line for runway 4R, aircraft experienced a total loss of #3 hydraulic system fluid. Boston tower was told that aircraft had to return to gate, but no reason was given. Found out several days later that the hydraulic fluid lost near runway 4R hold short line had damaged taxiway surface. If we had notified tower of our fluid loss, airport operations would have taken steps to remove fluid from taxiway, thereby minimizing damage to taxiway surface.
