Narrative:
Between the bvt and bdf vors, traffic at 12 O'clock and 6500 ft was called out by center. Traffic was actually at 8000 ft and bearing down on me. We took a steeply banked left turn to avoid a head-on midair. The other plane was a mid size twin with a white top and gray bottom (I couldn't get the n-number due to my evasive maneuver). Thank god for center's callout of the traffic, my family may not be here today without it. Center indicated they did not have radio contact with the traffic. Recommendations: 1) file a flight plan -- always! 2) know and follow all the proper IFR, VFR headings and altitude. 3) watch your altimeter settings. 4) be on the look-out for those who don't follow the rules who can quickly ruin your day and life. P.south. The traffic was not climbing or descending through 8000 ft and it appeared they didn't even notice me even though I turned on my landing light as they made no corrective action. This is the closest I ever want to get to another airplane in the air. It is very scary and it makes me terribly angry. I'd love to see the other pilot found and prosecuted before they hurt themselves and others.

Title: SMA AND SMT HAVE NMAC.
Narrative: BTWN THE BVT AND BDF VORS, TFC AT 12 O'CLOCK AND 6500 FT WAS CALLED OUT BY CTR. TFC WAS ACTUALLY AT 8000 FT AND BEARING DOWN ON ME. WE TOOK A STEEPLY BANKED L TURN TO AVOID A HEAD-ON MIDAIR. THE OTHER PLANE WAS A MID SIZE TWIN WITH A WHITE TOP AND GRAY BOTTOM (I COULDN'T GET THE N-NUMBER DUE TO MY EVASIVE MANEUVER). THANK GOD FOR CTR'S CALLOUT OF THE TFC, MY FAMILY MAY NOT BE HERE TODAY WITHOUT IT. CTR INDICATED THEY DID NOT HAVE RADIO CONTACT WITH THE TFC. RECOMMENDATIONS: 1) FILE A FLT PLAN -- ALWAYS! 2) KNOW AND FOLLOW ALL THE PROPER IFR, VFR HDGS AND ALT. 3) WATCH YOUR ALTIMETER SETTINGS. 4) BE ON THE LOOK-OUT FOR THOSE WHO DON'T FOLLOW THE RULES WHO CAN QUICKLY RUIN YOUR DAY AND LIFE. P.S. THE TFC WAS NOT CLBING OR DSNDING THROUGH 8000 FT AND IT APPEARED THEY DIDN'T EVEN NOTICE ME EVEN THOUGH I TURNED ON MY LNDG LIGHT AS THEY MADE NO CORRECTIVE ACTION. THIS IS THE CLOSEST I EVER WANT TO GET TO ANOTHER AIRPLANE IN THE AIR. IT IS VERY SCARY AND IT MAKES ME TERRIBLY ANGRY. I'D LOVE TO SEE THE OTHER PLT FOUND AND PROSECUTED BEFORE THEY HURT THEMSELVES AND OTHERS.
