Narrative:
En route det I asked for and was given clearance from 17000 ft to 21000 ft to clear some cumulus buildups in front of me. I made a 10 degree deviation north, hoping to get around the buildup. I entered the buildup at 20500 ft in the next 2 mins I was as high as 21500 ft and a low as 19500 ft exiting the other side at 20000 ft. All this time I was too busy keeping the airplane level to inform center what was happening.

Narrative: ENRTE DET I ASKED FOR AND WAS GIVEN CLRNC FROM 17000 FT TO 21000 FT TO CLR SOME CUMULUS BUILDUPS IN FRONT OF ME. I MADE A 10 DEG DEV N, HOPING TO GET AROUND THE BUILDUP.
