Narrative:
We were operating a scheduled flight from islip, ny, to boston, ma. Isp tower cleared us for takeoff on runway 15R. Previous to our takeoff clearance I had heard tower clear a helicopter for hover taxi west of runway 15R. I was concentrating on the departing small aircraft ahead and did not notice the helicopter until we were passing through his altitude. He had strayed well into the departure corridor for runway 15R. I was flying with a brand new first officer. He was preoccupied inside the cockpit flying the airplane. I was distracted by slower traffic that had departed ahead of us. The helicopter pilot was totally oblivious to his position. The tower controller was apparently not paying attention and seemed caught off guard by the situation. During future operations into islip I will be much more aware of military helicopter operations.

Title: LTT HAD NMAC WITH MIL HELI THAT HAD STRAYED OVER THE RWY. THIS HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY AFTER TKOF.
Narrative: WE WERE OPERATING A SCHEDULED FLT FROM ISLIP, NY, TO BOSTON, MA. ISP TWR CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 15R. PREVIOUS TO OUR TKOF CLRNC I HAD HEARD TWR CLR A HELI FOR HOVER TAXI W OF RWY 15R. I WAS CONCENTRATING ON THE DEPARTING SMA AHEAD AND DID NOT NOTICE THE HELI UNTIL WE WERE PASSING THROUGH HIS ALT. HE HAD STRAYED WELL INTO THE DEP CORRIDOR FOR RWY 15R. I WAS FLYING WITH A BRAND NEW FO. HE WAS PREOCCUPIED INSIDE THE COCKPIT FLYING THE AIRPLANE. I WAS DISTRACTED BY SLOWER TFC THAT HAD DEPARTED AHEAD OF US. THE HELI PLT WAS TOTALLY OBLIVIOUS TO HIS POS. THE TWR CTLR WAS APPARENTLY NOT PAYING ATTN AND SEEMED CAUGHT OFF GUARD BY THE SIT. DURING FUTURE OPS INTO ISLIP I WILL BE MUCH MORE AWARE OF MIL HELI OPS.
