Narrative:

While taxiing for takeoff at far airport, right main tires departed taxiway/runway while making a 180 degree turn for takeoff. Taxiway a is now the runway at far while the main runway is under construction. The taxiway is only 100 ft wide and makes 180 degree turns at the end for departure a difficult maneuver. The NOTAMS indicated that 180 degree turns for departure should be made at the end of the runway but was vague about whether it was the current runway or the temporary runway in use. After discussion with the FAA, I understand it to be the runway under construction. NOTAMS by the company and FAA should have been more specific and less vague and controller personnel should be more directive and informative since they are aware of situation while transit crews are not.

Title: AN ACR LGT CREW ATTEMPTED TO TURN THEIR LGT ON A TXWY USED AS A RWY THAT WAS TOO NARROW FOR AN EASY TURN.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING FOR TKOF AT FAR ARPT, R MAIN TIRES DEPARTED TXWY/RWY WHILE MAKING A 180 DEG TURN FOR TKOF. TXWY A IS NOW THE RWY AT FAR WHILE THE MAIN RWY IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION. THE TXWY IS ONLY 100 FT WIDE AND MAKES 180 DEG TURNS AT THE END FOR DEP A DIFFICULT MANEUVER. THE NOTAMS INDICATED THAT 180 DEG TURNS FOR DEP SHOULD BE MADE AT THE END OF THE RWY BUT WAS VAGUE ABOUT WHETHER IT WAS THE CURRENT RWY OR THE TEMPORARY RWY IN USE. AFTER DISCUSSION WITH THE FAA, I UNDERSTAND IT TO BE THE RWY UNDER CONSTRUCTION. NOTAMS BY THE COMPANY AND FAA SHOULD HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIFIC AND LESS VAGUE AND CTLR PERSONNEL SHOULD BE MORE DIRECTIVE AND INFORMATIVE SINCE THEY ARE AWARE OF SIT WHILE TRANSIT CREWS ARE NOT.
