Narrative:

ZOB had cleared cpr medium large transport from FL310 to FL280. Captain was flying the aircraft on autoplt. We descended approximately 500 ft below our assigned altitude (FL275), because the captain forgot to arm the autoplt altitude capture. ZOB queried us as to our altitude, and we immediately climbed back up to FL280. Additional factors: captain and first officer were not getting along too well on this trip. Captain had 'chewed out' first officer for giving a fuel load to maintenance without his specific authorization -- even though captain could not be reached when the decision on the fuel load had to be made! Captain is known for strong 'PIC' ego and rarely seeks input from fellow crew members. He is also the standardization captain and my senior. First officer felt out of place trying to help this individual before, during, and after this incident! Note: both crew members had attended cockpit resource management initial and refresher training. For this incident, it was a waste of time!
