Narrative:
Clearance to cross wiske, 10000 ft, 250 KTS. Noticed our altitude of 9600 ft and climbed immediately back to 10000 ft. The confusion occurred because the intersection was at 9 DME, and the captain had 9 on his mind instead of 10. 10000 ft was selected in the set altitude window. An autoplt with altitude capture would alleviate such mistakes. No traffic conflict occurred.
