Narrative:
Level at 5000 ft on approach to pvd, TCASII sounded 'traffic' then 'climb.' followed RA and climbed to 5700 ft. Controller said he had no traffic and told us to descend to 5000 ft when able. We did and landed without further incident.

Narrative: LEVEL AT 5000 FT ON APCH TO PVD, TCASII SOUNDED 'TFC' THEN 'CLB.' FOLLOWED RA AND CLBED TO 5700 FT. CTLR SAID HE HAD NO TFC AND TOLD US TO DSND TO 5000 FT WHEN ABLE. WE DID AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
