Narrative:

We were eastbound, level at 4000 ft, being vectored for approach to iad. In an instant we saw a glider at 12 O'clock just below us heading northeast. The captain took evasive action climbing, otherwise we might have collided. We passed about 100 ft above and behind him. He didn't see us (he made no turns or maneuvers) and the sky was a little hazy. We were TCASII equipped but got no advisory (no transponder on glider). We advised ATC after conflict was clear.
