Narrative:
Flew a nonstop bos-sfo and noticed much higher than expected fuel burn. Suspected aircraft may have been misloaded in bos, so we had cargo checked as it was unloaded in sfo. We found to our dismay that the cargo was actually 1400 pounds more than bos had said it was. Since we were only legal by 200 pounds in bos, this mistake actually made us illegal by 1200 pounds. This type of error by the ground personnel leaves me feeling very vulnerable! The fact that the takeoff at bos was 1000 ft RVR with us barreling down the runway at 155 KTS only seeing 3 runway lights ahead of us doesn't increase my comfort level with this gross weight error either! Supplemental information from acn 254254: the destination audit revealed our actual bag count was 25 pounds more than computed (600 pounds) and mail was undercomputed by 800 pounds, 1400 pounds total.
