Narrative:
Taxiing out of chicago we were given silver(?) taxi instructions which designates a route to runway 4L. It had been some months since I had been to ord. Same for first officer although 100 hour new-to-me-this-leg first officer had been based at ord previously. Usually we get cleared runway 32L and that was one of the runways in use that night. We taxied out and almost taxied past the 'jog' and had to turn back to join. I was thinking the runway 14R parallel was the jog. I had looked at the route before taxi. The first officer told me later that at that point the first officer became disoriented with where we were relative to our route. Continuing out the jog, clear WX night, I missed the bypass. I think that I was relying on the first officer to direct me. Then we were almost on runway 9L (past the hold short line) when I stopped. I had been looking at my compass trying to orient myself with the runway 4L but it didn't quite fit. We were about to call tower to tell them where we were when they called realizing where we were and cleared us for takeoff on runway 9L. Before taxiing, I looked at the 10-9 page and figured what I had to do to get to the bypass, but was relying on the first officer after that. I should have stopped and reviewed the 10-9 with the first officer making sure that both of us were in the loop.

Title: MLG FLC DISORIENTED DURING NIGHT TAXI. RWY INCURSION.
Narrative: TAXIING OUT OF CHICAGO WE WERE GIVEN SILVER(?) TAXI INSTRUCTIONS WHICH DESIGNATES A RTE TO RWY 4L. IT HAD BEEN SOME MONTHS SINCE I HAD BEEN TO ORD. SAME FOR FO ALTHOUGH 100 HR NEW-TO-ME-THIS-LEG FO HAD BEEN BASED AT ORD PREVIOUSLY. USUALLY WE GET CLRED RWY 32L AND THAT WAS ONE OF THE RWYS IN USE THAT NIGHT. WE TAXIED OUT AND ALMOST TAXIED PAST THE 'JOG' AND HAD TO TURN BACK TO JOIN. I WAS THINKING THE RWY 14R PARALLEL WAS THE JOG. I HAD LOOKED AT THE RTE BEFORE TAXI. THE FO TOLD ME LATER THAT AT THAT POINT THE FO BECAME DISORIENTED WITH WHERE WE WERE RELATIVE TO OUR RTE. CONTINUING OUT THE JOG, CLR WX NIGHT, I MISSED THE BYPASS. I THINK THAT I WAS RELYING ON THE FO TO DIRECT ME. THEN WE WERE ALMOST ON RWY 9L (PAST THE HOLD SHORT LINE) WHEN I STOPPED. I HAD BEEN LOOKING AT MY COMPASS TRYING TO ORIENT MYSELF WITH THE RWY 4L BUT IT DIDN'T QUITE FIT. WE WERE ABOUT TO CALL TWR TO TELL THEM WHERE WE WERE WHEN THEY CALLED REALIZING WHERE WE WERE AND CLRED US FOR TKOF ON RWY 9L. BEFORE TAXIING, I LOOKED AT THE 10-9 PAGE AND FIGURED WHAT I HAD TO DO TO GET TO THE BYPASS, BUT WAS RELYING ON THE FO AFTER THAT. I SHOULD HAVE STOPPED AND REVIEWED THE 10-9 WITH THE FO MAKING SURE THAT BOTH OF US WERE IN THE LOOP.
